Phil Baker, Managing Director, Adelaide Airport Limited
Career History
Currently MD of Adelaide Airport Ltd, position held for 11 years. Formerly Board member of ABCC, TTF, Queensland Airports Ltd (including MD of Coolangatta) and Ringway Handling (UK) Ltd. Prior to coming to Australia worked in airports, airlines and handling agents in UK, Europe, Middle East and Africa. Career spans 43 years.
Greatest Achievement
Fortunate to have enjoyed a fair bit of success over the years, but in work life, probably the completion of our new terminal (T1). Award of the Centenary Medal and AAA "Aviation Personality of the Year" would also rank highly. In home life - 29 years married to Sarah and 3 children (all now Aussie passport holders).
Favourite Pastime
All sports (ball type preferred) - now regrettably as a spectator only, both live and on TV. Lots of interesting and humorous stories over career - considered writing a book sometime?
Favourite South Australian Holiday Destination
Haven't seen it all yet, but for short trips like Normanville and Deep Creek and further afield really enjoyed Ceduna (and the whales).
Favourite Adelaide or South Australian Dining Experience
Really tough choice - probably the Salopian Inn, McLaren Vale.
Adelaide as a Destination
Whilst we have no single icon, we have so much variety within a relatively short drive, ranging from city sophistication to the outback, including: food; wine; arts; sport; beaches; nature; museums; fishing; live shows and festivals; indigenous culture; boating, etc.
