South Australia is renowned for its wine, produces the majority of all Australia’s wine exports. World famous wine regions such as the Barossa Valley are just a stone’s throw from Adelaide, and are home to brands such as Penfolds, Jacobs Creek and Wolf Blass. Celebrate such produce, against the backdrop of unique and vibrant festivals, including the Adelaide Fringe and Adelaide Cabaret Festivals.
South Australian wine can be experienced as close as the central business district, at the National Wine Centre of Australia, whilst in the Adelaide Foothills at Penfolds Magill Estate visitors can drop in for a tasting or join a winery tour, including one about Australia’s most famous wines, Penfold’s Grange.
Adelaide prides itself on a variety of outstanding fresh produce and innovative cuisine, boasting more restaurants per capita than any other Australian city. The climate is perfect for alfresco dining much of the year, making it one of the most popular pastimes for the people of Adelaide. In Adelaide you will find entire streets devoted to dining, from casual cafes to sophisticated restaurants serving cuisine from all corners of the globe.
It is a fact that many of Australia’s most innovative chefs are based in Adelaide with international influence ranging from the Mediterranean and Asia. Those spending time in Adelaide, soon appreciate just why the New York Times recently labelled the region as the ‘culinary hub of Australia’.
Adelaide is world famous for its arts and music festivals. Enjoy annually the Adelaide Fringe (the only such festival in the world outside of Edinburgh), Adelaide Cabaret Festival and the ‘WOMADelaide’ live music festival. Also there is the biennial Adelaide Festival of Arts, which features a smorgasbord of global artistic expression. Year round, world class performances can also be taken in at the Adelaide Festival Centre. Each year superstars of world cycling, battle on the roads of South Australia in the most prestigious early season race of the international cycling calendar - the ‘Tour Down Under’. It’s the event where half a million people line the roads to cheer on their champions and where spectators can meet their heroes. There is the awesome power of the V8 super cars as the award-winning Clipsal 500 Adelaide roars into town, featuring plenty of action both on and off the track, whilst Adelaide also plays host to the prestigious International Rugby Sevens.
