2011 Tourism Marketing Award
Conventions Adelaide Program a Winner for the Adelaide Convention Bureau
The Adelaide Convention Bureau has now won back to back Tourism Marketing Awards at the South Australia Tourism Awards. Following a win in 2010 for its re-branding campaign, the Bureau has just taken out the 2011 Tourism Marketing award for its Conventions Adelaide Program.
An ambassador based initiative, the Conventions Adelaide program offers an immensely exciting opportunity for South Australia’s tourism industry, government and private sector to work together to achieve continued growth and success in the national and international business events arena.
The program has become one of the key marketing strategies of the Adelaide Convention Bureau with some 65 ambassadors on board from a broad spectrum of genres. These ambassadors have helped generate more than $80 million in economic benefit from business events they have assisted in bringing to South Australia.
The Conventions Adelaide Program aims to increase Adelaide and South Australia’s ability to attract major national, Asia Pacific, and international association conventions that are aligned with the state’s primary areas of industry and research. This is achieved via a highly targeted and strategic state-wide cooperative approach from key industry contributors and beneficiaries.
It also aims to contribute positively to the Governent of South Australia’s key strategic goals including:
• The attraction of high yield business tourism visitors.
• Building business investment opportunities across South Australia’s key speciality sectors.
• Exceeding economic growth targets of primary industries.
• Boosting employment and population.
The Program has attracted high level support from across South Australian industry including Patron, Hon John Rau MP Minister for Tourism, The Right Honorable The Lord Mayor Stephen Yarwood, His Excellency Rear Admiral Kevin Scarce – Governor of South Australia, Executive level Government officials, the primary universities and state industry leaders.
Adelaide Convention Bureau CEO Damien Kitto said “once again this win is testament to the strategy and teamwork we have within the Bureau. We’re not the biggest fish in the sea in terms of Convention Bureaux but we consistently punch above our weight, awards such as these are well deserved recognition for the team.”
